What's Happening This Week?
Week 8: 10/14 - 10/17
10/13/14 - NO SCHOOL!! COLUMBUS DAY
10/14/14 - Today we will look at what the transcontinental railroad was, and more importantly, who built it, focusing on immigration labor that was used to construct the railroad. We will focus on the Chinese immigrants who built the Pacific Railroad in the late 1800s with video and notes.
10/15/14 - We will finish our look at the transcontinental railroad by looking at its effect on America, such as time zones. We will also complete our notes on Ch. 20, Section 2.
10/16/14 - We will be focusing on the growth of big business in the United States in the late 1800's, and the problems that came along with it. Some of the key terms we will be focusing on today and into next week are monopoly, trust, philanthropist, corporation, and stocks. Today we will create a vocabulary flip chart to help us clarify these terms.
10/17/14 - Today we will go back to our current events, and this time students will be in the computer lab researching a current event topic of their choosing and then completing an analysis of it.
