Week 1: 8/26 - 8/30
August 26th, 2014
Welcome to Central Junior High, and 8th grade Social Studies! There are many exciting things going on this week to start the year. The opening day of class, we will go over class rules and expectations, the class syllabus, and what our daily routine will be like.
After that, we will be reviewing what we know about the United States by filling in a blank map with the correct states and even capitals. From there, we will then pick up where we left off last year with the Civil War, and try to color the Union States blue, and the Confederate States red. Let's see if we can do it!!

To start class, we will begin with our "bell ringer" activity to get our minds moving. From there, we will go over the map we completed yesterday to see how much we got correct on it. From there, we will review the causes and effects of the Civil War by watching a BrainPop video and completing several graphic organizers.

Today we will review what we re-learned about the Civil War from BrainPop, and then tackle the topic of Reconstruction. To quickly learn it, we will watch a short video, and then complete several short activities to analyze the successes and failures of the Reconstruction of the South.
